The ruling on praying behind an imam whose clothes are contaminated with blood

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
He also asks: Is it permissible to pray with our brother the butcher, whose clothes are contaminated with blood, when he is the imam?

Answer:
He must not pray in clothes contaminated with blood, nor may he serve as an imam. The butcher must set aside pure clothes for prayer, or wash the blood that has soiled them before he prays, whether he is an imam, praying alone, or praying behind an imam. He must not lead people in prayer, nor pray alone while in a state of ritual impurity. It is not permissible for you to pray behind him; rather, you must rebuke him and instruct him until he purifies his clothes or sets aside clean clothes for prayer.
As long as his clothes are ritually impure, his prayer is invalid; rather, he must purify them or set aside clean clothes for prayer. This is obligatory for him and for everyone who is affected by ritual impurity, unless he is in a situation where he is unable to wash them, such as being in the desert where there is no water, and he fears missing the prayer. In that case, he prays according to his circumstances, even in the ritually impure garment, and his prayer is valid until he finds water to wash the garment or finds another garment to replace it, as long as he is in dire necessity and has no other garment but that one, and he is in the wilderness or a prisoner, and it is not feasible for anyone to give him a pure garment, and he is unable to wash it. Allah says:
So fear Allah as much as you are ableفَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
[Surat al-Taghabun: 16]. He prays until Allah provides a way out. If he is able to replace it or wash it, it becomes obligatory for him to do so.
