The issue of whether ghusl suffices in place of wudu'

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A listener who referred to himself by the letters (A), (H), and (Ha) asks: Does ghusl suffice in place of wudu'? He states that he pours water over his entire body.

Answer:
Ghusl does not suffice; wudu' is necessary. One must begin by rinsing the mouth, sniffing water into the nose, washing the face, then the hands, then wiping the head and ears, then washing the feet. As for pouring water over the body, that does not suffice, except if it is for janabah and he intends both the minor and major ritual impurities. If the ghusl is for janabah and he intends both impurities, the minor becomes subordinate to the major. However, the better and more preferable course, even in the case of janabah, is to perform wudu' first and then perform ghusl, following the practice of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who would perform wudu' and then ghusl (peace and blessings be upon him). This is the prescribed method, even for janabah. But if he intends both in the case of janabah, it suffices according to a group of scholars, and the minor becomes subordinate to the major. Nevertheless, in all cases, the better and more preferable course for him is to perform wudu' first, and then cover his entire body with ghusl in the case of janabah.
As for the recommended ghusl, such as the ghusl for Friday or the ghusl for cooling off, no, the ghusl is independent, and the wudu' is independent. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
