Ruling on Distributing Zakah to Close Relatives

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A message from the United Arab Emirates, signed by one of the listeners, (H. A. A.), an Egyptian. Our sister sent three messages at once, but due to the poor quality of her handwriting, I was only able to understand this question. She says: She gives a portion of her salary as zakah to her relatives. Is that sufficient, or not? May Allah reward you with good?

Answer:
If her relatives are poor, there is nothing wrong with it; the zakah is sufficient for them, provided they are not from her direct line of descent, meaning they are not her fathers or grandfathers, nor her mothers or grandmothers, nor her sons or her sons' sons. There is nothing wrong with giving to brothers, paternal uncles, maternal uncles, paternal cousins, maternal cousins, and the like, if they are poor and she gives them the zakah; this is a good charity and a good maintenance of family ties. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good.
