The Ruling on Greeting the Fiancée’s Mother Before the Marriage Contract

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is my fiancée’s mother considered a mahram (a relative one may not marry) before the marriage contract is written? And is it permissible for me to greet her?

Answer:
She is not a mahram until the contract is completed. Once the contract is completed... [the women become] mahrams. But before that, she is a stranger. You may greet her and ask about her well-being. And greet your fiancée with a greeting that does not involve uncovering, seclusion, or temptation. It should be an ordinary greeting, just as you would greet other women who are strangers, provided that there is no temptation in it and no fear of temptation arising from it. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good.
