The Ruling on a Woman Eating with Her Sister’s Husband

Question:
The questioner asks: Is it permissible for a wife to sit with her sister’s husband in the house, along with the children and her sister, to eat, without a hijab? Or is it not permissible?

Answer:
It is not permissible for a woman to sit with a non-mahram to eat, or to do anything else, without a hijab. Rather, she must observe the hijab and not eat with him. This is because eating with him leads to... he may see her face, and he may see her hand. Therefore, it is not recommended, and it is not permissible for her to do so. Rather, she should eat alone with the women, and the men should eat alone, so that there is no fitnah (trial, discord or temptation). Yes. And there should be no seeing of what must be hidden from the non-mahram man. There is no doubt that eating with him leads to him seeing her face, or part of her face, and seeing her hand. All of this is not permissible. Yes.
