The Ruling on Collective Supplication After Burial

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
When the deceased is buried, one person stands in front of the grave and makes supplication with a loud voice, while the rest of the mourners say "Ameen" to his supplication. Is this permissible, or is it an innovation? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
There is no harm in that. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when he finished burying the deceased, would stand over him and say:
Seek forgiveness for your brother, and beg steadfastness for him, for he will be questioned now.استغفروا لأخيكم، واسألوا له التثبيت؛ فإنه الآن يسأل
Sunan Abi Dawud 3221Sahih (Al-Albani)
.
The Sunnah is for them all to ask, each one saying: "O Allah, forgive him, O Allah, grant him firmness when questioned, O Allah, grant him firmness upon the truth." If one person says that and the others say "Ameen," then praise be to Allah, there is no harm in that. However, it is better for each one to make supplication as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Ask for your brother’s forgiveness.استغفروا لأخيكم
Each one says: "O Allah, forgive him, O Allah, grant him firmness upon the truth." This is part of the right of a Muslim over his brother, and it is sufficient, and praise be to Allah. If one person stands and says: "O Allah, forgive him, O Allah, grant him firmness upon the truth," and they say "Ameen," the objective is achieved—if Allah wills. But for each one to make supplication himself, complying with the command, that is what is better.

The presenter : May Allah bless you, may Allah reward you with good.
