Ruling on Visiting Fortune-Tellers and Diviners

A message was sent to the program from Riyadh, sent by one of the female listeners, who coded her name with the letters (M. J. M). She says: I am a woman who has been afflicted with the evil eye for six years, and no treatment has been of any benefit to me. Now, a woman has informed me of a man who has some treatment, and I am being treated by him without my husband’s knowledge. What is your opinion, Your Eminence, regarding one who uses recitation that involves the use of a book, and this book contains the gathering and dispersing of jinn? So where does this illness come from?—so she says in her message to Your Eminence, the Shaykh—is it from them or from others? And other treatments against them, meaning driving them out, if the illness is from them or from others. May Allah reward you with good?
Answer: This treatment with such a man is not permissible. This is called a diviner and a fortune-teller, so it is not permissible to come to him, nor to ask him questions, nor to be treated by him. It is not permissible for you to do this even if your husband gave you permission, how much more so when he does not know? This is never permissible for you, even if your husband told you to do it; you are not permitted to obey him in what Allah has forbidden.
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 2230, narrated by Muslim in the Sahih. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sunan Ibn Majah 639Hasan (Darussalam).
And when he was asked about the diviners and fortune-tellers, he said:.
So it is obligatory for you to repent to Allah and not to come to him; because with this action he is a fortune-teller who seeks the help of the jinn and worships them besides Allah. Indeed, they do not benefit him or obey him except if he draws near to them by slaughtering for them, or making vows for them, or supplicating to them and calling for their aid, or the like of that. And this is major shirk (associating partners with Allah). So you must not be treated by this man or his like. And you must repent to Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He), and ask Him (Exalted and Majestic is He) to heal you from what has afflicted you. There is no harm in being treated by known doctors and by the righteous among people who recite for you and blow upon you with the verses of the Qur'an and the Prophetic supplications. If a righteous woman with knowledge is available to recite for you, she will benefit you, if Allah wills. If she is not available, then a righteous man should recite for you and blow upon you, but he must not be alone with you; rather, he should recite for you while your husband, or your mother, or your sister, or the like of that is present. For seclusion is not permissible; it is not permissible for a man to be alone with a woman who is not a mahram (a relative one may not marry) to him, or to read for you in water for you to drink or to be sprinkled with.
All of this is permissible, and praise be to Allah. And if you know someone who is suspected of having the evil eye, you contact him and ask him to wash for you. He washes his face and his hands and rinses his mouth in the water, then you are sprinkled with it, and it will be of benefit by the permission of Allah.
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:, meaning: if it is said to the one suspected of the evil eye: wash your face and your hands for us, he does not refuse; he bathes and washes his extremities for them. And that is of benefit by the permission of Allah if it is poured on the one afflicted, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered. As for visiting fortune-tellers, astrologers, and those who use the jinn, it is never permissible, neither from the aspect of the evil eye nor from any other illness. Yes.

He who visits a diviner ('Arraf) and asks him about anything, his prayers extending to forty nights will not be accepted.
من أتى عرافًا فسأله عن شيء لم تقبل له صلاة أربعين ليلةor who goes to a fortuneteller and believes what he says, he has disbelieved in that which was revealed to Muhammad.

Do not go to them
