The Ruling on Zakat on Jewelry of Gold and Silver

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Is it permissible for me to pay zakat on the gold I use as adornment, such as necklaces, rings, and the like?
Answer: Yes, if it reaches the nisab, zakat is obligatory. If the jewelry is of gold or silver and reaches the nisab, you must pay zakat on it, according to the most correct of the scholars' opinions, even if it is jewelry. The nisab is twenty mithqals, which amounts to eleven Saudi pounds and three-sevenths of a Saudi pound, meaning eleven and a half Saudi pounds. It is said: this is the nisab, and anything more than that is subject to zakat. In grams, the amount is ninety-two grams. The point is that if jewelry reaches the nisab, it is subject to zakat, whether it is of gold or silver. The nisab for silver is one hundred and forty mithqals, which amounts to fifty-six silver riyals or their equivalent in currency. It is obligatory for one who has jewelry, such as bracelets, necklaces, or otherwise, that reaches the nisab to pay zakat on it, which is one-quarter of one-tenth. For example, if the value of the jewelry is ten thousand, she pays two hundred and fifty, which is one-quarter of one-tenth; because one-tenth of it is one thousand, and one-quarter of one-tenth is two hundred and fifty. If it is worth forty thousand, the zakat due on it is one thousand, which is one-quarter of one-tenth. May Allah guide them all. Yes.
The presenter: O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good and do you good.
