The Ruling on Praying in Congregation in Shops When Mosques Are Nearby

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The listener Mahmoud Abdul Rahman from Sudan sent a question about the ruling on praying in congregation in shops when mosques are present. Is the prayer valid or not?
Answer: It is obligatory for Muslims to pray in the mosques and to pray in congregation; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever hears the call for prayer and and does not come (to the mosque for prayer), his prayer will not be accepted from him, unless he has a (legitimate) excuse.من سمع النداء فلم يأت فلا صلاة له إلا من عذر
Bulugh al-Maram 2:308
, and because he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the blind man who asked him, saying:
I have no guide to lead me to the mosque, so do I have a dispensation to pray in my house? He said, (peace and blessings be upon him): Do you hear the call to prayer? He said: Yes. He said: Then respond.ليس لي قائد يلائمني إلى المسجد، فهل لي من رخصة أن أصلي في بيتي؟ فقال عليه الصلاة والسلام: هل تسمع النداء بالصلاة؟ قال: نعم. قال: فأجب
, so he ordered him to respond even though he was blind and had no guide to lead him.
So it is obligatory for Muslims to pray in the mosques in congregation, but if he prays in his shop or prays in his house, the prayer is valid with sin; he becomes a sinner and he must repent to Allah, and he must hasten to pray in congregation in the future. The prayer is valid according to the majority of the scholars, but he has sinned and erred. Likewise, those who pray in their shops, all of this is an error. So it is obligatory for them to pray with the people in the mosques, and it is not permissible for them to pray in the shops. Rather, they must close them, then pray with the people, then return. The right of Allah takes precedence, and the times for buying and selling are extended and long. But we seek refuge in Allah from Satan, we seek refuge in Allah from obeying desire and Satan.
