Ruling on divorcing a wife who creates problems with her husband's parents

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This message reached us from Ali Saleh ibn Saleh al-‘Amal, a Yemeni. He says: I have been married for four years, and my father lives with me in the same house. However, my wife likes to create problems with my father and mother. Every day I hit her, and at times I think about divorcing her. But I love her, and she loves me, and I do not know whether to please my father and mother or to please myself by loving her. My wife does not understand and does not read anything. Please advise us, may Allah reward you with the best reward?
Answer: You should continue to advise her and warn her against being defiant toward your parents and angering them, because dutifulness to them is obligatory. It is also obligatory for her to be polite toward your parents, to address them in the best manner, to be gentle with them, and to obey them in what leads to ending the problems, uniting the word, exchanging love, and cooperating. So, you must continue to advise her and guide her to good, while speaking with your parents so that they observe her condition and be gentle with her, perhaps she will straighten out, as long as you love her and she loves you, and there is no obstacle to her remaining upright in her religion, for you observe that and care for fixing the situation, and you advise her with what is necessary. Do not rush into divorce; do not rush into divorce, perhaps Allah will guide her. However, if she continues in the problems with your parents, then divorcing her is better, and Allah will replace her with something better for you. Indeed, whoever fears Allah, He will make for him a way out. And Allah the Exalted says:
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out (3) And will provide for him from where he does not expect.وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مَخْرَجًا ۝ وَيَرْزُقْهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لا يَحْتَسِبُ
[Al-Talaq: 2-3],
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him of his matter ease.وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ يُسْرًا
[Al-Talaq: 4]. Therefore, a woman who harms the parents and causes them distress, it is better to distance her, and it is better to marry someone else. And Allah the Exalted will replace the one who is dutiful to his parents with something better than what he lost, as a reward for his kindness and dutifulness to his parents. But the better course is not to rush, perhaps she will be guided, and perhaps she will straighten out with advice and guidance to good, and perhaps the parents will be gentle with her and be patient with some of her harm until she straightens out and her condition improves. May Allah guide everyone to His straight path.
The presenter: Thank you, may Allah reward you.
