The Ruling on Obeying One's Mother When She Orders the Divorce of the Wife

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This is a message from Jalal Abdul Hafeez, an Egyptian national working in Iraq. He says: My mother previously married me to a woman, and I responded to her request and married according to her wishes. I had a child from the woman she married me to. After a while, she asked me to divorce this woman, and I actually divorced her to please my mother. She then married me to another woman. My wife and I are happy, but my mother tells me: "Divorce her." I am confused in this matter. Please advise us, may Allah reward you with good?
Answer: You must be careful in matters and not be hasty. The mother has a great right, and the mother and father have a great right. But do not be hasty in matters. Obedience to them is a right, and dutifulness to them is obligatory. But do not be hasty in matters. If the wife is righteous and good, and there is no harm from her, then seek your mother's forgiveness with kind words. Intercede with her through good people, such as her brothers or sisters, or others whom she holds dear, so that she may forgive you. Do not be hasty if the wife is good.
As for if the wife is not good, then separate from her and obey your mother, for she has only advised you. It is obligatory for you to obey her in what is right and to separate from this woman. Allah will give you something better than her because of your dutifulness and obedience to your mother in good and what is right. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
