Ruling on Divorcing a Wife in Response to the Husband's Father's Request

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Should a man divorce his wife at the request of his parents, or one of them, even though harmony prevails between the spouses?

Answer:
This meaning has been mentioned before, and the obligatory course is to resolve the problem with kind words to his parents and to her. He should encourage her to conduct herself well with them and to be gentle with them. Likewise, he should speak to his parents, saying that she is a righteous woman and suitable for me, so I hope you two will grant permission and not insist on her separation. In other words, he should do what he can if she is of good character and sound in mind.
However, if the demand comes from the parents because of a defect in her, as she is deviating from the straight path, suspected of bad conduct, and the signs and causes are apparent, then it is obligatory to obey them in this situation.
