Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (He said: My Lord, then grant me respite until the Day)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Our brother also says: I ask for the exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted, I seek refuge in Allah from Satan the accursed:
(36) He said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected." (37) [Allah] said, "So indeed, you are of those reprieved (38) Until the Day of the time well-known." (39) [Iblees] said, "My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them on earth, and I will mislead them all (40) Except, among them, Your chosen servants."
[Al-Hijr: 36-40] Truthful is Allah the Mighty. What does Satan intend by adorning and leading astray, and what are they?
Answer: Satan’s intention with that is that he does what he can to lead people astray, prevent them from the truth, and take them from guidance to misguidance, so that they will be with him in the blazing Fire. Allah the Exalted said:
Indeed, Satan is an enemy to you; so take him as an enemy. He only invites his party to be among the companions of the Blaze.
[Fatir: 6]. So he calls us to be with him in the Fire; because Allah promised him the Fire and made it certain for him, and granted him respite until the Day of Resurrection as a trial and test, so that it becomes clear who obeys Allah and His Messenger and who obeys Satan and agrees with him.
He also adorns falsehood for them, beautifies sins for them, calls them to them, and makes them easy for them. He says to them: Do such and such, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful, O Allah, You are the One who accepts repentance and is Generous, until he adorns falsehood for them. He says: Enjoy this through zina, through intoxicants, through types of falsehood. He also adorns shirk (associating partners with Allah) for him if he is able, until he calls him to disbelief in Allah and misguidance. So the enemy of Allah leads people astray and adorns falsehood for them so that they will be with him in the Fire; because he was tried with this trial, may Allah curse him, and He expelled him and promised him the Fire for his arrogance and his refusal to prostrate to Adam and his disobedience to his Lord. So he deserved the curse of Allah and His anger, and his expulsion from His mercy, and He threatened him with the Fire and eternal abode therein.
Allah the Exalted said:
(84) [Allah] said, "The truth [is My oath], and the truth I say - (85) [That] I will surely fill Hell with you and those of them that follow you all together."
[Sad: 84-85]. So the enemy, Satan, has been promised by Allah the Fire, and his entry into it has been made certain for him. So he is extremely eager to lead the children of Adam astray and adorn falsehood for them so that they will be with him in the Fire. And so it is with the jinn devils; they are also eager to lead the jinn astray. So they are eager to lead the jinn astray with them and to lead the humans astray. Likewise, the human devils are eager to lead the humans astray so that they will be with them in the blazing Fire, as He the Majestic and Exalted said:
And thus We have made for every prophet an enemy - devils from mankind and jinn, inspiring to one another decorative speech in delusion. But if your Lord had willed, they would not have done it, so leave them and that which they invent.
[Al-An'am: 112].
And Allah the Majestic and Exalted tried these and those; He tried the jinn and the humans with the rebellious devils who have gone out from the obedience of Allah, from among the humans and the jinn, so that they call people to falsehood and adorn falsehood for them.
So it is obligatory for the obligated men and women to beware of the devils. Whoever calls you to the disobedience of Allah intentionally is a devil, either human or jinn. The one who dictates falsehood to you in your heart is from the devils of the jinn, and the one who calls you to it openly from among the humans is from the devils of humans. The one who says to you: Commit zina, drink intoxicants, kill so-and-so without right, or calls you to disbelief and misguidance, to the worship of the dead and seeking aid from the dead, or to the worship of idols or angels or jinn, all these are from the devils.
So it is not permissible for you to obey them; it is obligatory for you to disobey them so that you do not be with them in the Fire and the blazing Fire. And beware of being deceived by them and their adorning of falsehood and their beautifying of sins. Rather, it is obligatory that you obey Allah and His Messenger, and that you be upright upon the command of Allah, and that you stay away from the prohibitions of Allah, and that you seek help from your Lord the Majestic and Exalted. You say: O Allah, guide me to Your straight path, O Allah, rectify my heart and my deeds, O Allah, protect me from the devils of humans and jinn, O Allah, suffice me against their evil. You seek refuge in Allah from the devils of humans and jinn and you beware of them. And if something occurs to you in your heart, present it to what Allah and His Messenger said. If it is in agreement with the saying of Allah and His Messenger, then it is truth, so accept it. And if it contradicts the command of Allah and His Messenger, then it is from Satan.
And if it is unclear to you, ask the people of knowledge and faith, the people of insight from the scholars of the Muslims, the people of guidance. Ask them about what is unclear to you: is this truth or falsehood? If you are not a scholar, and if you are a student of knowledge, then look into the evidence from the speech of Allah and the speech of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) so that you know the truth from the falsehood, and so that the matters to which the devils of humans and jinn call you do not become confused with what Allah and His Messenger said. And Allah says, Exalted is He:
So ask the people of the message if you do not know.
[An-Nahl: 43], and He says, Exalted is He:
And if there comes to you from Satan an evil suggestion, then seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing.
[Fussilat: 36] .
And the inspirations from Satan are what Satan dictates to you and what occurs to your heart from the urges of falsehood; they are from the inspirations of the devils, the devils of the jinn. The jinn may take the form of people and call them to falsehood in the forms of men from the children of Adam or in the forms of women. They may take form and call to shirk (associating partners with Allah) and falsehood. So beware of obeying anyone who orders you to falsehood, even if it is your brother, even if it is your father, even if it is your friend. Do not obey anyone in falsehood, ever.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Obedience is in matters which are good and universally recognized.
Sunan Abi Dawud 2625Sahih (Al-Albani)
A creature is not to be obeyed when it involves disobedience to the "Creator.”لا طاعة لمخلوق في معصية الخالق
Mishkat al-Masabih 3696
So whoever orders you to good and the obedience of Allah and His Messenger is to be thanked, and this is to be obeyed in good. As for whoever calls you to sins and shirk (associating partners with Allah), do not obey him, even if he is a relative, even if he is a friend, even if he is a ruler, even if he is a father, even if he is a mother. It is not permissible for you to obey anyone in the sins of Allah .
And beware of being deceived by the deception and the adorning of falsehood and the mixing of truth with falsehood from the devils of humans and jinn. Beware of them, so that they do not drag you into the Fire, and so that they do not lead you to the blazing Fire because of the deception and the adorning of falsehood. There is no power and no strength except by Allah.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
