The ruling on one who prays at an angle away from the qiblah
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
With Allah’s blessing, we begin this session with a message from the questioner (Ahmad Abdullah A). He says: We were praying in one of the mosques in our village, and we prayed for a period of time in a direction other than the qiblah, as the qiblah was tilted significantly. Do we have to repeat the prayer, O Shaykh? We prayed for a long period—truly, we ask the Shaykh for guidance in our question?
Answer: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance.
As for what follows:
This matter is subject to detail: If the deviation is significant, you must repeat the prayer. However, if the deviation is slight, and you are facing the direction of the qiblah but merely turned slightly to the right or left, you do not have to repeat it. But if the deviation is significant, you must make up the prayers; because you prayed in a direction other than the qiblah, and you are in a town where you are able to ask and be careful. This involves negligence and a lack of concern. Therefore, making up the prayers is obligatory. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, Your Eminence.
