Explanation of the Book of Marriage-18

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Then the author (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "And from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When a man has two wives and he is inclined to one of them, he will come on the Day of resurrection with a side hanging down. من كانت له امرأتان فمال إلى إحداهما جاء يوم القيامة وشقه مائل
Sunan Abi Dawud 2133Sahih (Al-Albani)
"

Who has من كانت
"Who" is a conditional particle, and the verb of the condition is his saying:
They were كانت
, and the answer to the condition is his saying:
came جاء
.
And his saying:
The Day of Resurrection came جاء يوم القيامة
"Day" is a circumstantial phrase, and the doer is hidden in his saying:
came جاء
.
And his saying:
his side tilted شقه مائل
"Side" means flank, and the clause here is a circumstantial phrase from the doer of "came," meaning he came in the state that his side was tilted.
And his saying:
two wives امرأتان
means: two wives.
So in this hadith, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) warns against leaning toward one of the wives to the exclusion of the other, and he says:
When a man has two wives من كانت له امرأتان
Sunan Abi Dawud 2133Sahih (Al-Albani)
means: two wives.
and he is inclined to one of them, he will come on the Day of resurrection with a side hanging down. فمال إلى إحداهما ، جاء يوم القيامة وشقه مائل
Sunan Abi Dawud 2133Sahih (Al-Albani)
: And his saying:
leans مال
means the leaning for which one is blamed, and not the leaning that one is unable to avoid, due to the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And you will never be able to be equal [in feeling] between wives, even if you should strive [to do so]. So do not incline completely [toward one] and leave another hanging ولن تستطيعوا أن تعدلوا بين النساء ولو حرصتم فلا تميلوا كل الميل فتذروها كالمعلقة
[An-Nisa 4:129]
.
So his saying:
leans toward one of them مال إلى إحداهما
means: a leaning for which one is blamed.
The Day of Resurrection came جاء يوم القيامة
: means he came to the gathering place of the people, and his side was tilted, thereby exposing himself before the people.
