The Ruling on Prostration of Recitation for a Menstruating Woman and a Woman with Post-Natal Bleeding

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Does a menstruating woman perform the prostration of recitation?
Answer: The correct view is that there is no harm in it. It is permissible for her to recite from memory, and it is permissible for her to prostrate, just as she remembers Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He). Prostration is of the same category as recitation and of the same category as dhikr (remembrance of Allah); it is not prayer, according to the correct view. For this reason, it is permissible for the reciter to prostrate even if he is not in a state of wudu (ablution), according to the stronger of the two opinions of the scholars. Similarly, a menstruating woman and a woman with post-natal bleeding may recite from memory, and they may prostrate when they come upon a prostration verse, according to the correct view. This is because their state of impurity lasts a long time, and they are not like a person in a state of janabah (major ritual impurity). A person in a state of janabah is able to perform ghusl (full ritual bath) quickly, so he is not permitted to recite. However, the duration of menstruation and post-natal bleeding is long, and it is not permissible to analogize them to a person in a state of janabah. Therefore, they may recite, and they may prostrate when they come upon a prostration verse, according to the stronger of the two opinions of the scholars. They may also glorify Allah, say Allahu Akbar, and do similar acts of remembrance. Yes.
