What is the validity of the claim that a woman’s charity on behalf of her husband is not valid?

Question:
A questioner from Bahrain (H. A.) asks: Is it true, O Shaykh, that a wife is not permitted to give charity on behalf of her husband after his death, nor to seek mercy for him, nor to make du'a for him? If this is true, what are the reasons? We ask for your scholarly guidance.

Answer:
This is not correct! This is a mistake! The one who says this is mistaken, meaning he is ignorant and it is an abomination. On the contrary, it is prescribed for her to give charity on his behalf, to make du'a for him, to seek forgiveness for him, to perform Hajj on his behalf, and to perform 'Umrah; all of this is good. Allah established between them a bond of affection... a bond and union whose favor should not be forgotten. Allah says:
And do not forget graciousness between youوَلا تَنسَوُا الْفَضْلَ بَيْنَكُمْ
[Surat al-Baqarah: 237] The wife should not forget her husband, nor should he forget her if she dies before him. It is prescribed for each of them to do good to the one who died before them through charity, du'a, seeking forgiveness, performing Hajj on their behalf, paying off their debts, and other forms of good. The one who says: "Do not do this," is speaking a false and abominable statement that no sane person would say. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good, Your Eminence the Shaykh.
