Ruling on making up missed prayers and fasts for one who abandoned them

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A listener (J. H.) from al-Qassim sent a message containing two questions. In her first question, she says: Three years ago, I was very heedless of myself, and I was negligent in the prayers and in fasting. But now I am regretful and repentant. My question is: I was in days of heedlessness, and two years passed during which I did not fast and did not pray. Is it obligatory for me to make up the prayers and fasts that I missed? Or how do you guide me? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
The correct view is that repentance is sufficient, if Allah wills. You owe no making up, you owe no making up, and praise be to Allah. Repentance is sufficient. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Repentance wipes out what came before itالتوبة تجب ما قبلها
.
The one who repents from sin is like one who did not sin.والتائب من الذنب كمن لا ذنب له
Sunan Ibn Majah 4250Da’if (Darussalam)
So you owe no making up, neither for the prayer nor for the fasting; because abandoning the prayer is disbelief, and a disbeliever who embraces Islam does not make up what has passed. Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) said:
Say to those who have disbelieved [that] if they cease, what has previously occurred will be forgiven for themقُلْ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا إِنْ يَنْتَهُوا يُغْفَرْ لَهُمْ مَا قَدْ سَلَفَ
[Surat al-Anfal: 38], He forgives them what has passed before.
So an apostate does not make up what has passed, but he must repent and be upright, and praise be to Allah.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
