Ruling on a patient taking medication before breaking the fast in Ramadan

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
After this, a message was sent by the listener Hani 'Abd al-Husayn from the Syrian Arab Republic, Hama Governorate. Our brother has an issue, and he says: I suffer from a nasal disease called the sinuses, and I am unable to eat if I do not use a medication called .... The point is that last year, during the month of fasting, I fasted during the day. When the time for breaking the fast arrived, I was unable to eat a single bite because I had not used the medication; it opens the respiratory passages and makes it easy for a person to eat freely. I was unable to fast last month because of that illness. I fear the Great Allah and do not want to disobey Him in any way. Is it permissible for me to use the medication about half an hour before the time for breaking the fast arrives? It is a nasal drop. Know that I am compelled to do so, and if I do not use it, I cannot fast. This disease requires a surgical operation, but I do not have the costs for the surgery. If I wait until the time for breaking the fast and put in the drop, I will have to wait about half an hour before I can eat. I know that hastening the breaking of the fast is obligatory. What is the guidance of Your Eminence, the Shaykh? Can I use the nasal drop half an hour before the time for breaking the fast, since I am compelled? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
You are not permitted to do that, even if you delay. You are not permitted to do that, even if you delay breaking the fast, and praise be to Allah. You delay until you complete your fast, and when you have completed your fast, praise be to Allah. This is because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) informed us that the nose is a passage. Therefore, he said:
and sniff water up into your nostrils, thoroughly, unless you are fasting.وبالغ في الاستنشاق إلا أن تكون صائمًا
Sunan Ibn Majah 407Sahih (Darussalam)
So the nose is a passage for water and drops. You should delay this inhalation through the nose with the drop until the time enters, meaning: until the sun sets. Unless there is a light drop that does not go up and does not go down .... in the nose only, without going up to the brain, and without going down to the throat. And this cannot be, meaning: the drop must have a passage.
So the result is, as long as it has a passage to the brain, or goes down; delay it until the sun sets, even if you are delayed, and praise be to Allah.

The presenter : May Allah bless you. He says: Will he be delayed by half an hour?

The Shaykh : It does not harm, even if it is an hour, and praise be to Allah.

The presenter : So: Our brother must fast, and when the Maghrib adhan is called; he must use the drop, and after half an hour he eats and drinks.

The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, yes.

The presenter : May Allah bless you, and may Allah reward you with the best reward.
