The Ruling on a Non-Discerning Child Passing Between the Hands of the Congregation

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling if a child under the age of five passes in front of us during prayer, and if we try to stop him, he increases in passing, or sits in the place of prostration, or on the head of the one praying, especially if he is under three years old? What must be done with such a child? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.

Answer:
It is obligatory to turn him back; due to the generality of the evidence in the Shari'ah regarding this, including his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
If anybody amongst you is praying behind something as a Sutra and somebody tries to pass in front of him, then he should repulse him and if he refuses, he should use force against him for he is a Shaitan (a Satan).إذا صلى أحدكم إلى شيء يستره من الناس، فأراد أحد أن يجتاز بين يديه فليدفعه فإن أبى فليقاتله فإنما هو شيطان
Sahih al-Bukhari 509
agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. And the meaning of "let him fight him" is: let him push him away with force. And success is from Allah.
