The Effects of Major Ritual Impurity on Fasting in Ramadan

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner also asks: Does major ritual impurity invalidate the fast or not?
The answer: Major ritual impurity has different cases. If the impurity occurred at night, for example, if a man had intercourse with his wife at the end of the night and then dawn broke before he performed the full ritual bath, there is no blame on him, and the fast is valid. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would come to his wives and then dawn would break while he was in a state of major ritual impurity, and he would perform the full ritual bath after the morning, may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. However, if the impurity occurred during the day, meaning he had intercourse with his wife during the day, then he is sinful and has disobeyed his Lord (Mighty and Majestic) , and the fast is invalid, and he owes an expiation. If he did so intentionally, his expiation is freeing a slave. If he is unable to do so, he must fast for two consecutive months. If he is unable to do that, he must feed sixty poor people, giving each poor person half a sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg) of the staple food of the land. This is the expiation for the one who has intercourse with his wife during the day in Ramadan; his fast is invalid, and he must make up the fast for that day on which he had intercourse with his wife during the day. As for if the intercourse was at night, but he dawned in a state of major ritual impurity without having performed the full ritual bath, there is no blame on him for that. Yes.
