The amount of the nisab at which zakah becomes obligatory on wealth

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The question: His final question is: What is the amount of wealth for which zakah is obligatory upon him? May Allah guide you.
The answer: The nisab at which zakah becomes obligatory on gold is twenty mithqals, or what corresponds to it in Kuwaiti dinars or other currencies. For silver, it is one hundred and forty mithqals. The amount of this in Saudi pounds and French pounds is eleven pounds and three-sevenths of a pound. This is because one pound is two mithqals minus a quarter, and the nisab is twenty mithqals. Therefore, if a person has eleven pounds and three-sevenths of a pound of gold, zakah becomes obligatory on it if a lunar year has passed over it, whether it is in the form of coins, jewelry, uncast pieces, or if he has paper currency equivalent to it. He must pay zakah on it if a lunar year has passed over it. Likewise for silver, if he has an amount corresponding to one hundred and forty mithqals, which is fifty-six silver riyals of the Saudi dirham, or the equivalent in paper currency according to its value in the markets, then this is what zakah becomes obligatory on. Anything less than this has no zakah due on it.
