The Ruling on a Woman Performing Hajj Without a Mahram

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Shaykh Abdul Aziz, the first message in this episode is a message sent to the program from the Al-Lith region, the Electricity Company. The sender is our brother Ali Isa Al-Zahrani. Our brother has a long question in which he says: My mother performed Hajj with her brother’s son and her mother. When the arrival tawaf began, and due to the heavy crowd, they got separated and the boy went far away. My mother and her mother were left without a mahram, but they completed the rest of the rites with people known to us in the village, although—as I said—they are not mahrams. However, out of fear for them getting lost, and because of their advanced age, as they are over forty-five years old, and because our place is far from the Noble Makkah, and their fear of wasting time searching for that boy, they completed the Hajj. They did not meet the boy until after the Hajj was over. What is the ruling on what they did? And is their Hajj affected or not? We ask for clarification of this, and may you be rewarded and given good.

Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and whoever follows his guidance. As for what follows:
If the reality is as the questioner described, then their Hajj is valid. It is not a condition for tawaf, or sa'y, or stoning the pillars, or standing at 'Arafah, or at Muzdalifah, that there be a mahram. The mahram is only a condition for travel; they must not travel without a mahram. As for them performing the rites without a mahram, that does not harm them. If a woman stands at 'Arafah and her mahram is not with her, or at Muzdalifah, or she stones the pillars, or performs tawaf, or sa'y, and her mahram is not with her, there is no blame on her. Their Hajj is valid, their stoning is valid, and their standing is valid, and praise be to Allah. Yes.
