How to Deal with Evil Tapes

One of the scholars issued a ruling to a questioner who said: “I have repented and returned to Allah (Mighty and Majestic), but what do you advise someone who has obscene film tapes?” The scholar told him: “Break them and throw them in the sea.” The question is: Is it not better than breaking them and throwing them in the sea to record sermons and religious programs on them? Please inform us.
Answer: Yes, yes, that is the preferred course; because there is value in them, so it should not be wasted. Record something good on them, and that will erase what is evil in them, and praise be to Allah.
