How to Deal with a Neighbor Who Falls Short in His Religion

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The honorable Shaykh! If I have a neighbor who does not pray or is engaged in some prohibited acts, and I have given him advice or provided him with some tapes that guide him to the truth, have I thereby fulfilled my duty of advising him and cleared my conscience regarding him?
It is obligatory for a person, if he sees a prohibited act in his brother, to forbid him from it and to call him to good by any means, whether through tapes, small booklets, or by calling him himself. There is no harm in inviting him to your home and preparing food for him, then speaking to him about the matter. The impact of this direct approach may be greater than that of tapes and booklets, because the person may listen to or read them, or he may not. However, if you contact him yourself, visit him in his home, or invite him to yours, this may be more beneficial.
The important thing is reconciliation, and the means of reconciliation vary according to the differences among people, their circumstances, and their receptiveness. The wise and sensible person: It is the wise and sensible person who places things in their proper places. If you do all of this while striving for his guidance, you have fulfilled the duty of advising him.And Allah Mighty and Majestic says:
(21) So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. (22) You are not over them a controller.فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَا أَنْتَ مُذَكِّرٌ * لَسْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ بِمُصَيْطِرٍ
[Al-Ghashiyah: 21-22] .
