The Special and General Intercessions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Tell us about the intercession of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), for I have heard some things about this, and I want to make up for much of what I have missed regarding this topic. May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has intercessions: some are specific to him, and some are shared by the people with him. As for the intercession that is specific to him, it is the greatest intercession for the people of the standing place. He intercedes among them, prostrates before his Lord, and praises Him with great praises. Then Allah grants him permission to intercede, so he intercedes for the people of the standing place until judgment is passed among them.
This is one of his special attributes (peace and blessings be upon him), and it is the Praiseworthy Station that Allah mentioned in His saying (Exalted and Majestic is He) in the chapter of the Children of Israel:
it is expected that your Lord will resurrect you to a praised station.
[Al-Isra: 79]. This station is the station of intercession, in which the first and the last praise him (peace and blessings be upon him). For the creation turn to him on the Day of Resurrection. The believers turn to him after they have turned to Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus. All of them are in confusion, and all of them make excuses. They come to Adam and he makes an excuse, and Noah makes an excuse, and Abraham, Moses, and Jesus all make excuses. Then Jesus says to them:
go to Muhammad the Slave of Allah whose past and future sins were forgiven by Allahاذهبوا إلى عبد قد غفر الله له ما تقدم من ذنبه وما تأخر
Sahih al-Bukhari 4476
meaning: Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). So they turn to him. When they ask him, he (peace and blessings be upon him) advances to his Lord, prostrates before the Throne, and praises Him (Glorified and Exalted is He) with great praises that Allah opens for him. Then it is said to him:
O Muhammad, raise your head and speak, for you will be listened to; and ask, for your will be granted (your request); and intercede, for your intercession will be accepted.
Sahih al-Bukhari 7510
So he intercedes at that time after the permission of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) because He says (Exalted and Majestic is He):
Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission?
[Al-Baqarah: 255]. So no one intercedes with Him except by His permission (Glorified and Exalted is He) .
There is another intercession specific to him (peace and blessings be upon him), which is the intercession for the people of Paradise so that they enter Paradise. For they do not enter, and it is not opened for them except by his intercession (peace and blessings be upon him). This is also specific to him (peace and blessings be upon him).
There is a third intercession specific to him and to his uncle Abu Talib. It is that he interceded for him so that he would be in a shallow part of the Fire. He died upon disbelief in Allah and was in the depths of the Fire. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) interceded for him to be in a shallow part of the Fire because of his support of him. For he supported him and protected him when his people transgressed against him. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) interceded for him to be in a shallow part of the Fire. This is an intercession specific to Abu Talib, excepted from His saying (Exalted and Majestic is He):
So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors.
[Al-Muddaththir: 48], except in this particular matter with Abu Talib specifically. And Abu Talib is eternal in the Fire with the disbelievers, but he is in a shallow part of the Fire in which his brain boils. We ask Allah for safety.
The lightest of people in punishment is Abu Talib and those like him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Indeed, the lightest of people in punishment on the Day of Resurrection is the one who has two sandals of fire in which his brain boils.
– We ask Allah for safety – in a narration:
The one who has two embers of fire placed on his feet in which his brain boils.
So he thinks he is the most severe of people in punishment, while he is the lightest of them in punishment. And Abu Talib is of this type. We ask Allah for safety. Yes.
