Question:
The listener Faisal al-Wuhaybi says: I hope you will explain to me the saying of the Truth, (Blessed and Exalted is He), I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan: [An-Nisa:79].
Answer:
Its meaning is: that whatever good befalls you is from Allah; He is the One who bestowed it upon you as a favor, guided you to it, and helped you with it. He is the Bestower, (Glorified and Exalted is He), the Generous, the Noble. Although the divine decree preceded it, He still bestowed it upon you, helping you with it and guiding you to it, until you performed it, whether it was prayer or something else.
And whatever evil befalls you is from yourself, from disobedience or otherwise; it is from the causes of your own self, from your sins, or your negligence, and your failure to fulfill the obligatory. Although it was preceded in the knowledge of Allah that it would occur, you are the cause of its occurrence through your actions, through your sins, or your negligence, and your failure to take the prescribed means. So if your property is taken, or your money is stolen, because you did not lock the door, or did not do what is required to guard it, then you are the cause.
Likewise, if you fall into sin, you are the cause; because you are the one who committed it, you are the one who was negligent in it, and you are the one who sought it. Even if it was by a preceding decree, it is from your causes. You have causes, you have action, you have power, you have intellect, so it is from yourself, even if it is by the decree of Allah. Therefore, after that comes: [An-Nisa:78], meaning: by the decree of Allah, but obedience is from His favor, and disobedience is from the causes of your negligence, and your other causes in which you were negligent, until the sin occurred, or the illness occurred, or the theft occurred, or the destruction occurred, or the coup occurred, or something similar. Yes.
