The questioner :
And when good things come to them, they say, "This is from us." But if evil befalls them, they say, "This is from you." فإذا جاءتهم الحسنة قالوا لنا هذا وإن تصبهم سيّئة يقولوا هذه من عندك
until He said:
Say, "All [things] are from Allah." قل كلّ من عند الله
[An-Nisa 4:78]
, then He said in the verse following it:
What comes to you of good is from Allah, but what comes to you of evil, [O man], is from yourself ما أصابك من حسنة فمن الله وما أصابك من سيّئة فمن نفسك
[An-Nisa 4:79]
.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : So how do you reconcile them, may Allah bless you?

The Shaykh : The reconciliation between them is that the first verse is in terms of divine decree, meaning that it is Allah who decreed it, while the second verse is in terms of cause, meaning that whatever evil befalls you, you are the cause. And the One who decreed the evil and decreed the punishment for it is Allah. Did you understand? Yes, after that, did you understand now or not? Praise be to Allah. Yes, Yasar, no, no, the people of the town are generous; they put guests before themselves. There are no guests, so yes, let us start from the beginning. Fine, please go ahead.

The questioner : O Shaykh ... from Rafha
