Question:
He says: It occurs to the minds of many people that if a person dies and is not buried in the grave, he will escape the punishment of the grave. So what do you advise one who thinks in this way? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
The deceased is questioned, whether he is in his grave, or in any place, or in the desert, or in the seas, or in the bellies of wild beasts. He is held accountable, and the accountability is for the soul. The soul is safe, so he is questioned. He is punished if he was wretched, or he is granted bliss if he was pious. His soul is granted bliss in Paradise, or it is punished in the Fire. The body has its share as well. The body, of which bones or skin remain, has its share of bliss and punishment in the manner that Allah knows . However, the greater part is upon the soul in the barzakh (the interval between death and resurrection). On the Day of Resurrection, the punishment gathers upon the body and the soul, and so does the bliss. It is either in Paradise for the people of faith and piety, or in the Fire for the people of disbelief in Allah.
So the conclusion is: Bliss and punishment are for both the soul and the body. But in the barzakh, the greater part is upon the soul, and the body receives its share. Whether he is in the seas, or in the bellies of wild beasts, or in any place, the soul has its share of bliss and punishment absolutely. But in the barzakh, the soul has the greater share of bliss and punishment. On the Day of Resurrection, the full bliss is available to the people of faith for both the soul and the body, and the full punishment is available to the people of wretchedness for both the soul and the body. We ask Allah for safety.
And so the sinner has his share if he enters the Fire. The punishment is for the soul and the body. And if Allah saves him, the bliss is for the soul and the body. And so it is after his exit from the Fire. Many of the sinners enter the Fire because of their sins and are purified. When they are purified of their evil deeds by the punishment, Allah brings them out to Paradise. So they are punished in soul and body, and they are granted bliss in soul and body. Only the disbelievers remain in the Fire eternally. Only the disbelievers remain in the Fire in a final eternity that has no end.
The sinner, such as the fornicator and the murderer, may remain in the Fire eternally, but an eternity that has an end. A long eternity, meaning: a long period, meaning: a long duration, but it has an end. As Allah the Exalted said regarding the fornicator who kills: [Al-Furqan: 69]. And He said regarding the murderer: [An-Nisa: 93], the verse. So this is an eternity that has an end; it is not like the eternity of the disbelievers. As for the eternity of the disbelievers—we seek refuge in Allah—it does not end. As Allah said regarding them: [Al-Baqarah: 167]. And He said regarding them, the Exalted: [Fatir: 36]. We ask Allah for safety. Yes.

and he will abide therein humiliated -
وَيَخْلُدْ فِيهِ مُهَانًاBut whoever kills a believer intentionally - his recompense is Hell, wherein he will abide eternally, and Allah has become angry with him
وَمَنْ يَقْتُلْ مُؤْمِنًا مُتَعَمِّدًا فَجَزَاؤُهُ جَهَنَّمُ خَالِدًا فِيهَا وَغَضِبَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِThus will Allah show them their deeds as regrets upon them. And they are never to emerge from the Fire.
كَذَلِكَ يُرِيهِمُ اللَّهُ أَعْمَالَهُمْ حَسَرَاتٍ عَلَيْهِمْ وَمَا هُمْ بِخَارِجِينَ مِنَ النَّارِ[Death] is not decreed for them so they may die, nor will its torment be lightened for them. Thus do we recompense every ungrateful one.
لا يُقْضَى عَلَيْهِمْ فَيَمُوتُوا وَلا يُخَفَّفُ عَنْهُمْ مِنْ عَذَابِهَا كَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي كُلَّ كَفُورٍThe presenter : May Allah reward you with good.
