How the sick person prays

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
May Allah reward you; Abu Abdullah says, “O Shaykh Saleh: My father has been in a hospital bed for more than two years. He cannot move and he cannot perform wudu. When we tell him that the time for prayer has arrived, he understands what we are saying, but he does not perform wudu. Does he pray while he is in the bed?”

Answer:
Answer: Yes, he prays according to his condition. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “The sick person prays standing; if he cannot, then sitting; if he cannot, then on his side; if he cannot, then lying on his back with his feet toward the qiblah.” So he prays according to his condition. However, if he is unable to use water, as this questioner mentions, then he should bring him clean earth to perform tayammum with. What we know is that the Ministry of Health distributes to patients sponges saturated with dust, which they have with them; they strike the sponges and perform tayammum with the dust on them. He should not leave off tayammum, even if he is unable to perform it himself; in that case, someone comes to perform it for him by striking these sponges and the pure dust with his hands, then wiping his face and wiping his hands.
