Explaining the Time of the Fajr Prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
From the Arab Republic of Egypt, Cairo University, a message was received for the program from the listener Nessim al-Zawahiri. In one of his questions, he says: How do we determine the time of Fajr, and what is the duration between Fajr and sunrise? In Egypt, the time between Fajr and sunrise is approximately one and a half hours. I have read in the books of authentic hadith and tafsir that Fajr is the whiteness of the day and the spreading of light in the streets. Please inform us about this issue. May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
Fajr, as you mentioned, is: the splitting of the dawn. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) explained that Fajr is when the dawn splits and crosses the eastern sky; this is the true dawn. There is also a false dawn that appears like a pillar, then disappears, and darkness follows it; this is of no concern. As for the true dawn, it spreads to the south and north in the direction of the east, and its light increases. This is the dawn. When this dawn appears, it is what distinguishes the white thread from the black thread; this is the white thread, the dawn.
It spreads and widens, and its light increases until its light is complete, and the effects of the night disappear, and the effects of the night disappear, and it continues until the sun rises. The general rule, as you mentioned, is that the time between them is approximately one and a half hours, according to what the experts have stated.
It may be slightly less than one and a half hours, according to what some experts have stated. So the matter here does not depend on a specific time; it depends on the rising of the sun. When the sun rises and ascends, the prayer becomes permissible. As long as the sun has not risen, it is the time of Fajr. So if he prays it before the sun rises, he is within its time. However, he should not delay it to the point of risking missing it, but he should hasten to perform it and pray it in the darkness. If he is able, he should pray it with the Muslims in the mosques, and the woman should pray it at home at the beginning of the time. This is the best.
If he delays until the day becomes clear and the darkness disappears, there is no blame on him. But he should not delay until the sun rises. He may delay until the light of dawn is clear, and there is no blame in that. However, the best is to pray it in the darkness. This is the best: to pray it in the darkness after the dawn has become clear, spread, and become distinct, and there is no doubt. Yes.
