How to repent for one who refused to pay zakah for several years

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner Abu Mazin says: I did not pay zakah for many years, so I repented to Allah , but I do not know the number of years. My wealth and real estate are substantial. What is the way to pay what is due for the past? And what is the path to repentance? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
The path to repentance is regret for the past, the resolve not to return to it, abandoning it, and hastening to pay the zakah for the past. You should investigate the past and pay the zakah for the years that have passed. You should investigate and exert your effort; if you think it was five years, you pay zakah for five years; if you think it was six, you pay for six, and so on. You investigate the past years for which you did not pay zakah, and you pay its zakah on the wealth you have, along with repentance, regret, abandoning it, the resolve not to return to it, and doing much good deeds.
And Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, says:
But indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance.وَإِنِّي لَغَفَّارٌ لِمَنْ تَابَ وَآمَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا ثُمَّ اهْتَدَى
[Ta-Ha:82] And He, Glorified and Exalted is He, says:
And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.وَتُوبُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ جَمِيعًا أَيُّهَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ
[Al-Nur:31] And when a person repents, Allah forgives him what has passed, and He preserves for him the good that preceded. The previous good is preserved for him, and the sins are forgiven by his sincere repentance and his good deeds. Yes.
