Is the believer punished if he dies in a state of disobedience?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This question also approaches the previous one, and the questioner, who did not mention his name in this message, says: Your Eminence! Peace be upon you and Allah’s mercy and blessings, and my question is: If a person dies, and this person is careful to perform the prayers, and to fast, and to fast voluntarily on some occasions, on Mondays and Thursdays, along with fasting six days of Shawwal, and he performed Hajj to the House of Allah, and he did not associate partners with Allah, and he is a monotheist with regard to Allah, along with reading the Qur’an on some occasions, he says: But this person does not guarantee himself from talebearing, and from minor sins. The question remains: If this person dies, will he be punished for these sins? Please guide us in light of this question.

Answer:
Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) promised the believers Paradise, and honor, and He threatened the sinners with punishments. Talebearing is among the ugliest of evil deeds; talebearing is among the ugliest of evil deeds. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The tale-bearer shall not enter Paradise.لا يدخل الجنة نمام
Sahih Muslim 105a
So he is in danger if he dies in a state of talebearing, or backbiting, or unlawful sexual intercourse, or intoxicants, but he is under the will of Allah. Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) says in His great Book:
Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He willsإِنَّ اللَّهَ لا يَغْفِرُ أَنْ يُشْرَكَ بِهِ وَيَغْفِرُ مَا دُونَ ذَلِكَ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ
[Al-Nisa: 48].
So if he dies with righteous deeds, and mindfulness of Allah, but he has sins and evil deeds; then his affair is with Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He). If they are minor sins; Allah forgives them by his righteous deeds. But if there are major sins, such as talebearing and the like; then he is under the will of Allah; because Allah says (Exalted and Majestic is He):
If you avoid the major sins which you are forbidden, We will remove from you your lesser sins and admit you to a noble entrance [into Paradise].
[Al-Nisa: 31] And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The five [daily] prayers, Friday to Friday and Ramadan to Ramadan make atonement for what has happened since the previous one when major sins have been avoided.الصلوات الخمس، والجمعة إلى الجمعة، ورمضان إلى رمضان كفارات لما بينهن إذا اجتنب الكبائر
Mishkat al-Masabih 564
.
So if he did not avoid them; these prayers will not be an expiation. If he has unlawful sexual intercourse and persists in it, or intoxicants and persists in it; it is not expiated by prayer and the like. His danger remains, and he is under the will [of Allah].
And likewise, if he dies in a state of undutifulness to parents, severing family ties, usury or interest, and the like of major sins—may Allah grant us safety—he is under the will of Allah in danger. He may enter the Fire, and be punished according to the magnitude of the major sins he died upon. Or Allah may pardon him by many causes, such as righteous deeds, the intercession of some of the intercessors from the believers, and so on. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, O Shaykh.
