Question:
This is our brother from Yemen (A. M. al-Dal'i), who says: Your Eminence! I heard a hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to the effect that: "He passed by two graves and said:Sahih Muslim 292a Or in the meaning of the hadith, Your Eminence! I hope you will clarify this hadith in its statement: Sunan an-Nasa'i 2069Sahih (Darussalam) Because when I hear this hadith, I am afraid, as I suffer from a problem, which is that I feel, after urination and the complete ablution for prayer, as if drops are coming out of me, and this happens during the prayer. Please guide us in light of this hadith and its explanation, may you be rewarded?
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon whoever follows his guidance. As for what follows:
This hadith is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated it in the two Sahihs. He said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by two graves and said: And in another wording: Sahih al-Bukhari 6055 So he took a fresh palm branch, split it in two, then stuck one in each grave, and said: Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah 1:59.
The mentioned hadith indicates the need to beware of talebearing, and that it is among the most evil of major sins, and among the greatest of major sins. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 105a So walking around with talebearing is among the causes of the punishment of the grave, and among the causes of being deprived of entering Paradise. It is: going about among people with bad talk, conveying the words of these people to those people, and the words of this one to this one, which causes hatred and enmity. This is talebearing; the slander among people, conveying something that is not good from Zayd to 'Amr, or from a group to a group, resulting in the evil that results. This is called talebearing, so it is obligatory to beware of it.
And the second sin: not cleaning oneself from urine. So it is obligatory upon the Muslim man and woman to take care of cleanliness from urine and feces. When he relieves himself, he must strive to clean himself from his urine and feces with water, if water is available, or with stones by using stones for cleaning, with this or that. If he cleans with stones three times, or more, until he is clean from the urine, or from the traces of the feces, that is sufficient. And if he cleans with water, he washes his private parts with water until he purifies the place, and that is sufficient, and praise be to Allah.
And if a person has drops coming out of him after urination, he should not hasten, he should not hasten until the drops finish. When the drops finish, he should perform istinja' (cleaning), or use stones for cleaning, and let him beware of waswas (whispers of doubt), as he may be whispered to in prayer, or after ablution, that something has come out of him; he should not pay attention to this. Waswas must be discarded. If he knows with certainty that something has come out of him; he repeats the istinja', he performs istinja', then he performs the ablution for prayer.
As for waswas after ablution, or in prayer, or on the road, these must be discarded. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked, he said: "O Messenger of Allah! A man is confused, he feels something in prayer? He said: He does not leave -when asked about the man, is he confused whether something came out of him- he said (peace and blessings be upon him):Sahih Muslim 361 And he said (peace and blessings be upon him): Sahih Muslim 362.
The point is: that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade acting upon waswas, and warned against it, so it is not permissible for him to pay attention to them; because this harms him, and Satan occupies him. But if he is certain, and knows with certainty that urine, or feces, has come out, he performs istinja', otherwise the original state is purity. So if one suspects one percent that something has come out of him, nothing is required of him until he knows one hundred percent, meaning: without any doubt that urine, or feces, has come out of him, otherwise the original state is purity, and innocence, and praise be to Allah. Yes.
This is our brother from Yemen (A. M. al-Dal'i), who says: Your Eminence! I heard a hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to the effect that: "He passed by two graves and said:
They (their occupants) are being tormented, but they are not tormented for a grievous sin. One of them carried tales and the other did not keep himself safe from being defiled by urine.
إنهما ليعذبان، وما يعذبان في كبير؛ أما أحدهما فكان يمشي بين الناس بالنميمة، وأما الثاني فكان لا يستبرئ من بولهused not to take care to avoid getting urine on his body or clothes
