Can a bedridden patient pray while sitting?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is it permissible for a paralyzed patient to pray while sitting?

Answer:
A patient may pray while sitting if standing is difficult for him; he prays sitting down. This is based on the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) statement in the authentic hadith to 'Imran ibn Husayn when he fell ill, where he said:
offer prayer in standing condition; if you are unable to do so, then in sitting condition: if you are then at your sideصل قائمًا، فإن لم تستطع فقاعدًا، فإن لم تستطع فعلى جنب، فإن لم تستطع فمستلقيًا
Sunan Abi Dawud 952Sahih (Al-Albani)
. This is part of Allah’s facilitation, and praise be to Allah,
So fear Allah as much as you are ableفَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
[al-Taghābun: 16].
Therefore, a male or female patient who is unable to stand, or for whom standing is difficult, prays sitting down. If he is unable to sit due to the severity of his illness, it is better for him to pray on his right side, or on his left side according to what is easier, though the right side is better. If that is difficult for him, he prays lying down, with his feet toward the qiblah, facing it with his face, or lying on his back.
Likewise, a bedridden person who cannot stand due to paralysis prays sitting down, facing the qiblah, and praise be to Allah. He prostrates on the ground, bowing in the air and prostrating on the ground, placing his face on the ground in prostration. As for bowing, it is done in the air, unless he is unable to prostrate due to an illness that makes prostration difficult and prevents him from prostrating; in that case, he prostrates in the air like bowing, and his prostration is lower than his bowing. He bows in the air and prostrates in the air, but the prostration must be lower than the bowing if he is unable to prostrate on the ground. This is because Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity, and He says :
So fear Allah as much as you are ableفَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
[al-Taghābun: 16]. Yes.
