Advice for a girl suffering from a psychological condition
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
One of the listeners from Jordan sent a somewhat long message. I ask the Shaykh’s permission to read it in full. She says:
In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy, and in Him we seek help.
Peace be upon you, and Allah’s mercy and blessings, and after that:
She says about herself: I am a twenty-two-year-old girl. I have been afflicted with a psychological illness that has made life narrow for me from all its doors and made me feel a deadly despair, despair of being cured of this illness, which is a lack of personality. After my bitter experience with this illness, I discovered that all the misfortunes of this world are easier than it. I have become completely disconnected from the reality that people live in, so I no longer feel the human emotions they feel, such as joy, sadness, happiness, love, and hate. How can you imagine a person without emotions? I constantly admit that I have wronged myself by causing this illness and losing my personality for trivial reasons that do not need to be mentioned.
My question is: I am often overcome by states of complete despair of life. This is not from me, but from the intensity of the psychological pain I suffer as a result of this deadly illness. Is this despair of Allah’s mercy for which I will be punished? Especially since I constantly admit to myself that I am the one who wronged myself, and I always call upon Allah, the Most High, the Almighty, to grant me a cure for this illness. This state of despair makes me think about suicide, but I return and seek refuge in Allah from Satan, the accursed. Will I be punished for this thought or not?
Guide us, advise us, give us sincere advice, and make du'a for us. May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
I ask Allah for your healing and well-being, and I ask Allah to grant you a cure and protect you from the evil of your own self and your Satan. It is obligatory for you, O sister in Allah, O young woman, to return to Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He), and to repent from this bad deed, this bad suspicion, and this bad feeling. You must seek refuge in Allah from Satan and ask Allah to help you to remember Him, thank Him, fulfill His rights, and distance yourself from these suspicions and these bad feelings, until He responds to you and gives you from His bounty what will return you to the normal state. Be humble before Allah with sincerity and ask Him to grant you healing in your prostration, at the end of the prayer, in the middle of the night, in the last part of the night, after the adhan before the prayer. All these are great times for response. So never despair. Sit with the righteous among your sisters or aunts. Sit with the righteous and talk to them. Strive with yourself and increase in tasbih, tahlil, tahmid, takbir, and seeking forgiveness. Be humble before Allah constantly with sincerity that He grant you well-being.
And beware of suicide. Suicide is one of the greatest crimes, one of the greatest major sins, and one of the causes of entering the Fire. But you must be sincere in your humility before Allah and asking Him for well-being and healing. Mix with the good men and women of your family, talk to them, consult them, and take their advice. Ask Allah from His bounty, ask Him to grant you healing. Beware of despair; never despair. The bounty of Allah is vast, and He, the Exalted, is the One who said: [Ghafir:60] He is the Generous, the Most Merciful . And when you are sincere in that, be glad of good. And say also: Sunan Abi Dawud 3898Sahih (Al-Albani), Sahih al-Bukhari 3371 Increase this, repeat it three times, and increase it morning and evening, constantly until this affliction is removed. Also say: Sunan Ibn Majah 3869 three times, morning and evening, repeat it. Sunan Ibn Majah 3869 And read Ayat al-Kursi, read it after every prayer and when sleeping, for it is one of the greatest causes of well-being from all evil.
And likewise [Al-Ikhlas:1] and the two Mu'awwidhat. Read them all three times morning and evening, morning after Fajr and evening after Maghrib, and when sleeping three times, and after Zuhr, Asr, and Isha once. You read these three surahs. All of this is among the causes of well-being and healing, as came from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
So the result is: that you must have good opinion of Allah, be sincere with Allah, and ask Him for well-being and healing from this affliction. You must increase in the remembrance of Allah, His tasbih, tahlil, tahmid, seeking forgiveness, and du'a asking for well-being. And you must sit with the righteous, with the good women of your family, to talk and enjoy their company, consult, and give advice. We ask Allah for you well-being and success.
The presenter: O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good.
