Ruling on Reciting Specific Verses in the Dhuha Prayer

Question:
A letter signed by one of the brothers, who says: I am Sudanese, residing in the Kingdom. I have a collection of questions, one of which is: I have become accustomed to reciting the two verses of gratitude in the two rak'ahs of the Dhuha prayer; the verse from Surat al-Naml [al-Naml:19], and also the verse from Surat al-Ahqaf: [al-Ahqaf:15]. Is my doing this, O Shaykh, considered an innovation, or am I free to recite whatever I wish from the Book of Allah?
May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
There is no blame on you for reciting whatever is easy for you, provided you do not believe that there is a specific Sunnah in this; this has no basis. But just as your Lord (Exalted and Majestic is He) said: [al-Muzzammil:20], if you recite whatever is easy for you, there is no blame on you. However, if you intentionally choose two specific verses and believe that they alone are the Sunnah, this has no basis; because religious innovation is not permissible in the Shari'ah, and no one says: this is a Sunnah, or this is an innovation, except with evidence. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih Muslim 1718b So if you only intended that they are two great verses, and you liked to recite them, there is nothing wrong with them, or with others, without believing that they are a Sunnah to the exclusion of others, a specific Sunnah. Yes.
