The reason for not feeling sincere repentance

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A message from one of the listening brothers. The sender (K. M.) is from Qassim, Unaizah. Our brother says: I have committed some sins, including major ones. When I came to work in the Kingdom, I found an atmosphere of faith, which helped me to repent. However, I do not feel sincere repentance in the depths of my soul, and I have no feeling of regret for committing those sins, nor fear that when I return to where I was, I will fall into sin again. What is the reason for not feeling repentance?
May Allah reward you with good, knowing that my desire for repentance is sincere and intense.

Answer:
The reason—Allah knows best—is the hardness in the heart and the effects of previous sins. If Allah grants you the feeling of the greatness of the sin and the awareness of the danger, then by that you renew a sincere repentance, the content of which is regret for the past, sincere regret and sorrow, abandoning the sin, leaving it out of fear of Allah and exalting Him, and the sincere resolve not to return to it.
We advise you to increase in reading the Qur'an, increasing in the remembrance of Allah, and keeping the company of the righteous. You must keep the company of good, righteous people; sit with them until you benefit from their characteristics and morals. You must also increase in seeking forgiveness and asking Allah to grant you sincere repentance, to rectify your heart, and to fill it with mindfulness of Allah and fear of Him. Strive in this, and increase in reading the Qur'an with reflection and understanding, so that you know what Allah has prepared for the believers of great good, and what He has prepared for the disbelievers of great evil. Be humble before Allah, asking Him to rectify your heart, to illuminate it with faith, and to fill it with the fear of Allah. By this, you will find—Allah willing—the sincere feeling of the danger of sin, and you will also find the feeling of the intense need for sincere repentance that is not mixed with persistence in disobedience. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
