The Permissibility of Seeking a Righteous Husband

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner, Abu Ibrahīm from al-Qasim, asks: Is it permissible for a father to choose a righteous husband for his daughter and inform him or speak to him about this matter?

Answer:
Yes, it is a recommended practice (sunnah) for the father; it is prescribed for him to seek a righteous husband for her and suggest him to her. 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), when his daughter Ḥafṣah became a widow, proposed her to 'Uthmān and to al-Ṣiddīq Abū Bakr, hoping that one of them would marry her, until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) married her. So, proposing a woman to a righteous man is a required matter, as he loves good for his daughter or his sister and strives for her to have a righteous husband. All of this is required. Even if a righteous man proposes to her, saying: "O so-and-so! I am offering you my daughter or my sister," because he loves him for the sake of Allah due to his righteousness, there is nothing wrong with it. However, he must not marry her off without her consent.

The presenter: May Allah reward you.
