The Ruling on Reciting the Qur'an with Tajwid

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Our brother asks and says: Please clarify the ruling on reciting the Qur'an with tajwid.

Answer:
Reciting the Qur'an with tajwid is recommended, and it involves beautifying the voice with the Qur'an. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who does not chant the Qur'an is not one of us.ليس منا من لم يتغن بالقرآن
Sunan Abi Dawud 1469Sahih (Al-Albani)
which means: he should beautify his voice. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Adorn the Qur'an with your voicesزينوا القرآن بأصواتكم
So it is the Sunnah for the believer to take care to beautify his voice in recitation; because this is more humbling for the heart, and more beneficial for the listeners. And so it is for the believing woman. It is recommended for the one who recites the Qur'an to take care to beautify his voice, and to recite with tartil (measured recitation), reflection, and understanding, so that he benefits, and benefits himself, and benefits the listeners. Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) said: :
[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.كِتَابٌ أَنزَلْنَاهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَارَكٌ لِيَدَّبَّرُوا آيَاتِهِ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُوْلُوا الأَلْبَابِ
[Surat al-Saffat: 29], and He (Glorified and Exalted is He) said:
So when the Qur'an is recited, then listen to it and pay attention that you may receive mercy.وَإِذَا قُرِئَ الْقُرْآنُ فَاسْتَمِعُوا لَهُ وَأَنصِتُوا لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ
[Surat al-A'raf: 204].
It is recommended for the believer, male and female, to take care to beautify the voice, whether he knows the rules of tajwid or not. If he knows the rules of tajwid, he recites with tajwid; otherwise, he should strive to recite in a clear, good manner, beautifying his voice, reciting with tartil, not rushing, and pronouncing the letters from their proper points of articulation; so that the recitation is clear, distinct, and beneficial for the listeners, and with sadness and humility; because this is more beneficial for him and for all the listeners. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when he recited, would become so humble in his recitation that one could hear the sound of his chest heaving from weeping in his prayer (peace and blessings be upon him). And al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) Abu Bakr, when he recited, the people could not hear anything but his weeping . Thus the righteous ones would become humble and weep when reciting. So it is the Sunnah for the believer to beautify his voice—and so for the believing woman—and to be humble in his recitation and to reflect. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
