Ruling on gathering to recite the Qur'an for the deceased

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Ibrahim Muhammad says: When a relative of ours dies, a number of reciters, or students of the Qur'an memorization, come to his home and recite the Qur'an with the intention that the reward reaches the deceased. Then, after that, they make du'a for the deceased. After they finish, they feed the reciters, or give them money, or combine both, or do something like this for a sick person to seek healing for his illness, or for one who has built a house, so that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) blesses his house. What is the ruling?

Answer:
This has no basis. I say: it has no basis in this, namely that one recites for the deceased, or gathers them for eating, and they recite for the deceased; all of this has no basis and is not prescribed.
As for visiting them to offer condolences, visiting the family of the deceased for condolences; this is recommended. As for gathering them for recitation, the recitation does not reach [the deceased], there is no evidence for it, nor is there any gathering for recitation, or for eating, or for talking. If food is prepared for people, no; the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not do this with the deceased. Jarir ibn Abdullah al-Bajali (may Allah be pleased with him) — and he is one of the well-known Companions — said: "We considered gathering at the home of the deceased and preparing food after the burial to be part of wailing."
As for if they visit them to offer condolences, and serve them a cup of coffee, a cup of tea... but gathering with the intention of assembling, and setting up tents... and the like of that, or inviting reciters... all of this is from religious innovations, it has no basis, yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you.
