Zakat on Worn Jewelry

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
You are asking Your Eminence, Shaykh Abdul Aziz, and you say: Do I have to pay zakat on the jewelry I wear most of the time?

Answer:
There is scholarly disagreement regarding gold and silver jewelry. A group of scholars say: There is no zakat on it if it is used, while others say: It is subject to zakat, even if it is used, provided it reaches the nisab. This is the more correct opinion. The most correct of the scholars' opinions is that it is subject to zakat if it reaches the nisab; because there are hadiths indicating this. A woman came to him with two bracelets—meaning two bracelets—of gold, and he said:
Do you give the zakah of this?أتعطين زكاة هذا؟
She said: No. He said:
Are you pleased that Allah may put two bangles of fire on your hands?أيسرك أن يسورك الله بهما يوم القيامة سوارين من نار؟
Sunan Abi Dawud 1563Hasan (Al-Albani)
.
And he said to Aisha, when she had rings that she did not pay zakat on:
It is enough for you from the Fireهي حسبك من النار
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 15:11
.
And he said to Umm Salama, who used to wear gold ornaments: Are they a store of wealth? He said:
What is not paid zakat on is not a store of wealthما زكي فليس بكنز

Therefore, it is obligatory for women, if they have gold and silver jewelry that reaches the nisab, to pay zakat, according to the most correct of the scholars' opinions, if the jewelry reaches the nisab. The nisab is eleven and a half pounds, meaning twenty mithqals, approximately eighty-two grams. If the jewelry reaches this, zakat is obligatory on the gold. As for silver, its nisab is one hundred and forty mithqals, meaning fifty-six riyals, in Saudi riyals for silver. If the silver reaches this nisab, meaning fifty-six riyals, meaning one hundred and forty mithqals, then it is subject to zakat. This is the correct view, this is the stronger position, and this is the truth. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
