Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The first letter in this episode is from one of the listening brothers, who signed at the end with the name: Your son, Mustafa Babakir Hamad. He asks a collection of questions, one of which is: Is it permissible to shake hands with an elderly woman who is not a mahram?
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, upon his family and his Companions, and upon whoever follows his guidance. As for what follows:
Indeed, Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) has prescribed for His servants what is in their benefit and leads to a good outcome, and He has forbidden them what harms them and what is feared to lead to a bad outcome. Among this is that He ﷺ prohibited shaking hands with women, as reported through His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Therefore, it is not permissible for a man to shake hands with a woman who is not a mahram to him, even if she is advanced in age; because shaking hands may lead to consequences that are not praiseworthy. It is authentically reported from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:Sunan Ibn Majah 2874Sahih (Darussalam) This includes both elderly women and young women. Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "By Allah, the hand of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) never touched the hand of a woman—meaning: during the pledge of allegiance—he never pledged with them except by speech." (peace and blessings be upon him).
Some of the scholars of knowledge said: Shaking hands is more severe than looking, and more dangerous. Therefore, it is obligatory to abandon it absolutely. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
