The obligation to obey one's husband in matters other than the disobedience of Allah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: I am married, and my husband refuses to let me take birth control pills, as he does not feel the hardship I am enduring. I am being harmed, and I have taken birth control pills without my husband's knowledge. Is there any blame on me for this? Please note that he says, "Breastfeed the child, or you will become pregnant." I have intended to stop taking them after Hajj. What is required of me?

Answer: If it is easy to stop taking them, that is the safer course. However, if the harm is severe and the difficulty is great, there is no harm in taking them; otherwise, stopping them is the safer course. Obedience to the husband is obligatory, except if the harm is significant and it is difficult for you; as Allah the Exalted said:
So fear Allah as much as you are ableفَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
[Surat al-Taghabun: 16].
