The ruling on carrying the funeral on a car and using loudspeakers for the Qur'an
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
He says: The practice of carrying the deceased in a car, with a loudspeaker on it, and placing a Qur'an tape on it, until they bring the deceased to the cemetery, has become widespread. Also, during the festivals, we find people going to the cemetery with a recording, and they play it at the grave, believing that this act benefits the deceased. What is the ruling on these actions? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
This has no basis. Placing a loudspeaker on the car containing the funeral and reciting the Qur'an, or going with a recorder and reciting the Qur'an at the graves, this is a religious innovation (bid'ah) with no basis. It should not be done. Allah has not prescribed reciting at the graves, nor has He prescribed seeking out supplication at them. Rather, one supplicates during the visit when he greets them, supplicating for them and for himself, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did and guided the community to do. He (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say when visiting the graves: And he taught his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) when they visited the graves to say: Sunan Ibn Majah 1547Sahih (Darussalam) This is what is prescribed when visiting the graves: supplicating for them and for the visitor.
As for reciting the Qur'an, or praying at the grave, or sitting there seeking to supplicate there; this has no basis. Yes.
