Reciting the Qur'an over a loudspeaker before the Friday adhan
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: The imam of our mosque does not give the first adhan for Friday, but he is content with reciting the Qur'an over the mosque's loudspeaker from the time of the first adhan until the time of the second adhan. What is the ruling on this? Please inform us; may Allah reward you.
Answer: This is abandoning the Sunnah and introducing a religious innovation, because the first adhan is from the Sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliphs. 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered it during his caliphate when the people increased
and their locations became distant, and they came to need someone to alert them. So he (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered the first adhan to urge the people to attend the Friday prayer. It has remained a Sunnah to this day,And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) says:Mishkat al-Masabih 165Sahīh (Zubair `Aliza'i) He did this, and the Muhajireen and Ansar present during his caliphate approved it, so it became an established Sunnah. Therefore, the one who abandons this adhan that the Rightly Guided Caliph 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) established, and replaces it with reciting the Qur'an over a loudspeaker, his action is a religious innovation. Because reciting the Qur'an in this place and in this manner is an innovation; it is not from the practice of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), nor from the practice of his Companions, nor from the practice of the best of generations.
So it is obligatory for the Muslims to restrict themselves to what is prescribed and not to invent anything on their own.
And reciting the Qur'an over a loudspeaker does not suffice for the adhan, which is the symbol of Islam and which Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) legislated for the Muslims. And Allah the Exalted knows best.
