How to Deal with Children Who Do Not Pray

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The mother of Sa'd says: O Shaykh—may Allah preserve you—I have children who do not pray. I have advised them many times, but they did not respond to my advice. What should I do with them? And am I sinful for leaving them?

Answer:
It is obligatory to advise them and to discipline them if you are able to discipline them, or to refer their case to the Commission or to the court so that they are disciplined. It is not permissible to remain silent about them. Rather, it is obligatory to take care of them; it is obligatory to take care of them and to strive to establish them in prayer, because whoever abandons it commits disbelief. The matter of prayer is great. So you must strive to advise them, or to beat them if you are able. If you are not able, refer their case to the authorities, to the Commission, if there is a Commission in your city, or to the court, or to the prince, so that they help you against them; because remaining silent about them is not permissible.
Allah—Exalted and Majestic is He—says:
O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stonesيَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا قُوا أَنفُسَكُمْ وَأَهْلِيكُمْ نَارًا وَقُودُهَا النَّاسُ وَالْحِجَارَةُ
[At-Tahrim: 6].. And Allah—Exalted and Majestic is He—says:
And enjoin upon your family the prayer and be patient in it.وَأْمُرْ أَهْلَكَ بِالصَّلاةِ وَاصْطَبِرْ عَلَيْهَا
[Ta-Ha: 132].. And He—Exalted and Majestic is He—says:
The believing men and believing women are allies of one another. They enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrongوَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتُ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَاءُ بَعْضٍ يَأْمُرُونَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ الْمُنكَرِ
[At-Tawbah: 71] Abandoning prayer is among the greatest of what is wrong.
So it is obligatory to take care of them, to strive for them, to admonish them, to remind them, to advise them, and to discipline them if you are able, or their father, if he has a father who is present, or an elder brother who disciplines them. If you are not able, refer their case to the governor, or the Commission, or the court. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you and bless you, may the Shaykh be respected.
