Question:
He says, “O His Eminence the Shaykh: I live about a twenty-minute walk from the mosque, and I do not hear the call to prayer except during quiet times, and that is through loudspeakers. He asks: Is my prayer at home not accepted, given that there is nothing to frighten me?”
Answer:
If a person is far from the mosque, to the point where he cannot hear the customary call to prayer, then it is not obligatory for him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Bulugh al-Maram 2:308 And he said to the blind man: Sahih Muslim 653 He said: Yes. He said: So if one is in a distant place where he cannot hear the customary call to prayer except through loudspeakers, then it is not obligatory for him. However, if he seeks the reward, is patient, and goes to the mosque, that is better for him, and it carries great virtue.
