Ruling on preventing a younger sister from marrying because of an older sister

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This questioner from Libya says in this question: He mentions that he is a young man of twenty-seven years of age. He says: I proposed to a girl from among my relatives in the past two years, and when my father went to propose to her for me—and he was the one who initiated this—her father’s response was refusal, on the grounds that I had proposed to the younger girl and left the older one. This girl is determined to marry me, and I am truly in a state of confusion. What should I do? Please guide us in light of this?

Answer:
Many guardians make a mistake and say: We must marry off the older sister before the younger one. This is a mistake. Whoever is destined to marry will marry, whether she is the younger or the older. The younger one may be more beautiful, or she may be more knowledgeable, so desires differ.
It is obligatory for the awliya (close friends of Allah) to fear Allah, and to marry off the one who has reached marriageable age, whether she is young or old, and not to withhold the young girl from marriage for the sake of the older one; this is a great error. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When someone whose religion and character you are pleased with proposes to (someone under the care) of one of you, then marry to him.إذا خطب إليكم من ترضون دينه، وخلقه فزوجوه
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1084Da'if (Darussalam)
.
Therefore, a person is commanded, when a suitable suitor proposes to him, to give her in marriage, whether he proposed for the younger or the older. He should not say: I will hold back the younger one until I marry off the older one. This is injustice and aggression, and it is not permissible for the guardians at all.
This is a great matter, and I advise all my brothers to be cautious of it. I advise whoever hears this program to be cautious. If he has sisters, or daughters, or others, then it is obligatory to marry off whoever is destined to marry, whether she is the younger or the older, and not to hold back the younger one for the sake of the older one. Everyone has her own destiny. The younger one may be more knowledgeable, she may be more beautiful, or there may be other reasons. Therefore, it is obligatory to accept the suitor if he is suitable, whether he asked for the younger or the older. May Allah guide them all.

The presenter: O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good, Your Eminence.
