The Ruling on Clearing a Father’s Account Regarding the Rights of Creation

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A man swore on the Noble Qur’an that he had not done anything, and he was lying. This man has now passed away, and I am his daughter. The questioner says: I want to clear my father’s account. Should I inform the person to whom he swore? Or what should I do, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh: Repeat.

The presenter: The questioner says: A man swore on the Noble Qur’an that he had not done anything, and he was lying. This man has now passed away, and I am his daughter. I want to clear my father’s account. Should I inform the other person to whom my father swore? Or what should I do?

Answer:
If you know that your father erred and lied, then pay his debt on his behalf. If he said, “By Allah, I did not take anything from your money,” or “By Allah, I do not owe you a debt,” and he was lying, give him his right from your money, or otherwise from the estate, if you know this and the heirs agree with you. If they do not agree with you, give him from your money. And be glad of good and reward, if you know that the father was a liar and that the right is established in his account; whether it is a debt, theft, usurpation, or otherwise, pay it to clear your father’s account, and be glad of good.

The presenter: What is required of this daughter regarding supplication and righteous deeds for her father?

The Shaykh: You should supplicate for him and seek forgiveness for him. It is your duty to supplicate for him for forgiveness and mercy, if he was a Muslim. Yes.

The presenter: Praise be to Allah. May Allah reward you with good, O Shaykh.
